Watching the Moon and Jupiter

Last Monday  our Astronomy Club ( astronsm ) , organized a night observation . Our aim was to observe the crescent Moon , Jupiter and some of the latest winter constellations and early spring ones .

The Moon was spectacular, as always . Close to the terminator we could observe the shadows of craters that enhanced forms . We observed in one of those  craters  a central peak and one valley created by a flush meteorite .

We also saw Jupiter and three of its major moons or satellites. We were able to see two of their bands . Seen through the telescope , Jupiter is not as images that can be watched online, but it is too great too.

In the constellation of Gemini we recognized its main stars : Castor and Pollux . At the end of the night we saw Orion, appearing through the clouds and its main stars Betelgeuse and Rigel , we also saw the M41 nebula.

We were disappointed because we were not able to observe  Taurus, Leo and Cancer because the sky was partly cloudy.

With the applications installed on mobile phones, we were able to identify constellations and stars . Tonight it was allowed to use them at the school.

It was an unforgettable observation night and we are thinking about repeating it  soon on the outskirts of Madrid.
